+Mitchell uses internal dialogue, juxtaposition of tone and symbolism to convey to the reader Jason's reaction to the bullying as something he has accepted while still attempting to regain some dignity and status.

+	- Jason describes ways how he is trying not to lose everything (trying not to cry)
+	- Describing the bullies seems like he is resigned
+- juxtaposition of tone
+	- Jason and the bullies have very different ways of speaking in this passage; the bullies use a lot of slang and a lot of emphasized words (italic, caps) while Jason does not 
+- symbolism
+	- the Adidas bag can be interpreted as a symbol for Jason's popularity or status as a "middle-ranking" kid
+	- It gets taken away from him by the bullies, and at the end it is thrown on the bus and he chases after it
+		- This shows that he is still trying to regain some dignity, although he doesn't attempt to retrieve the bag at first
