- History - launched by MCA and Phillips in 1978 - Initially had the name "DiscoVision" - Jaws was the first movie on LaserDisk - new formats needed blockbuster films in order to take off - Many extended cuts and special editions were launched on LaserDisk - Format - Quality was much higher than VHS - Allowed for stereo sound and then eventually 5.1 surround - Length stored on one disk was either 30 or 60 minuted depending on the format - would have to flip side of disk or disk partway through movie.
